Controversial Race Winding Down
From the Southern Political Report, February 14,2006
One of Kentucky's most controversial races ever is in the final stretch.
And the campaign is getting nasty. On Tuesday, voters in Kentucky's 37th District will choose a new state senator in a special election.
They'll choose between Republican Debbie Peden and Democrat Perry Clark.
The district has been without a senator since the 2004 election because of the Dana Seum Stephenson/Virginia Woodward controversy.
Both candidates say the ads they've run have only shown the truth of their opponent.
The Kentucky Supreme Court ruled the winner of the 2004 election, Stephenson, ineligible because she did not meet residency requirements
The 37th District representative seat is also up for grabs Tuesday. Clark is leaving that position to run for senator.
Republicans, already in charge of the Senate, aspire to take control of the House in the fall elections. Democrats hope to pad their advantage in the House and retake the Senate.
