FRANKFORT, KY - Jerry Wayne Emmons of Chinook Trail in Frankfort was found dead at his home by neighbors on Monday October 25, 2004. His death was sudden and unexpected. According to the Franklin County Corner's Office, he died of natural causes. He was 54 years old and of the Christian faith.
Mr. Emmons was a career employee of Commonwealth of Kentucky. During his career, he worked in the Kentucky
Department of Education – Adult Education, for the Cabinet for Work Force Development and most recently the Department for Unemployment Insurance – Employment Training.
Mr. Emmons was born May 31, 1950 at Maysville, KY. He attended Tilton Elementary School and was a 1968 Graduate of
Fleming County High School. He was named an All-State baseball player, having pitched a rare perfect game in his senior year at FCHS. Mr. Emmons attended Western Kentucky University where he played
varsity baseball for the Hilltoppers. He was also a star pitcher and hitter for Coach Don Hardin's Morehead American Legion Baseball team. Mr. Emmons was a 1974 graduate of Morehead State
University. While at MSU he was a member of Delta Tau Delta social fraternity.
Prior to joining state government, Mr. Emmons was Director of the Fleming County Recreation Park at Flemingsburg. He
was an avid and accomplished golfer. Mr. Emmons was an award winning volunteer fundraiser for Big Brothers/ Big Sister of the Bluegrass in their Frankfort Bowling for Kids Sake. Additionally, he was
recognized by his peers and honored by Governor Paul Patton as Adult Educator of the Year in 2000.
Mr. Emmons was the third of six children born to the late Lowell Lee and Theresa Fay Emmons of Tilton, KY in rural
Fleming County. Growing up he assisted with the family general store and farming enterprises. The business, L. L. Emmons General Store was established by his paternal grandfather, Lamar Lee Emmons in
1898 and continued operation in the Emmons family until the death of his father Lowell Lee Emmons 1992. The business, now known as the Tilton Store, remains a thriving crossroads business operating
in the original structure.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Janice Kay Carpenter and an infant brother William Scott Emmons all
of Fleming County. Mr. Emmons was a bachelor, who lived alone with his two pet dogs Rock and Bud. He is survived by three brothers: Elgin (Kathy) Emmons of Ft. Thomas, KY, Dale (Alison) Emmons
of Richmond, KY and Lowell Louis "Double L" (Tammy) Emmons of Flemingsburg, KY.

Funeral Arrangements are being conducted by Denton and Workman Funeral Home, Flemingsburg, KY. Visitation will be at
the funeral home Thursday night 6:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday. Burial will at the Flemingsburg Cemetery.
